Biography

Sydney Bagpipers bring the magnificent echo of the highlands to Australia. Our pipers have a wealth of successful performances under their belts, and never fail to impress and inspire our audiences. In addition to weddings and funerals, Sydney Bagpipers have played to great response at birthdays, corporate events, charity and sponsorship events, opening and launch activities, concerts, Burns Night, St Andrews Day celebrations and highland gatherings... the list goes on!

Richard McGregor is a highly experienced piper who started learning the pipes at the age of 13, at St Andrew's College in New Zealand. He has subsequently played for the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, RNZAC (as his father did before him) in the 1990 Massed Beating Retreat in front of the Royal Family - including Her Majesty the Queen - on the Horse Guards Parade, London. This involved intensive training at the Scottish Division School of Pipes & Drums in Edinburgh, and in the Guards Depot at Pirbright near London.

Donald McKay is currently Pipe Sergent for the St George & Sutherland Pipe Band, and for whom piping is also a family affair; his father was the Pipe Major of the celebrated Waimatuku Pipe Band in New Zealand. Donald started playing the bagpipes at the tender age of ten, and subsequently undertook a significant amount of competition work with the Tuatapere Caledonian Pipe Band and Waimatuku Pipe Band until moving to Australia over ten years ago. He had the honour of sailing with the HMAS Brisbane from Bunbury to Sydney as resident piper. Donald also played during the only wedding ever performed on an exploratory oil rig.

For an often dramatic, sometimes emotional and always memorable event; one or both of our pipers will have guests talking about your event for years to come.
